Health Equity Training*

This training helps clinicians learn from peer support workers and the power of lived experience in understanding mental health and recovery. By looking beyond diagnosis to context, culture, and community, participants gain practical tools to apply equity-based, dignity-centered care in their clinical practice.

Course description

This training is designed for clinicians to learn directly from peer support workers, bringing lived experience storytelling to the forefront as a paradigm shift in how we understand mental health, illness and recovery. Instead of viewing diagnosis as a fixed identity, participants will explore how social determinants of health, environment, history, and relationships shape well-being. By placing people in their broader context rather than focusing on symptoms, clinicians gain a deeper understanding of equity, culture, and community. The training also examines how inequities impact access to care and offers practical ways to apply a health equity perspective that strengthens dignity, trust, and effectiveness in clinical practice.
