Job Summary

The Peer Run Respite Advocate (PRA) will support the daily operations of the Peer Run Respite. They offer peer support for each guest. The PRA is available to instill hope, support wellness and demonstrate that healing is a self-determined process. PRA model and utilize trauma informed techniques and tools, help guests set goals and engage in community and social events.

The purpose of Peer Respite is to support individuals experiencing emotional distress and other life challenges while avoiding hospitalization or other, more invasive interventions. The PRA will offer trauma-informed peer support that is directed by the core values of the recovery and survivor movements and the mission of Kiva Centers. The PRA will operate with the ultimate goal of empowering each individual to find their own path to self- healing. To that end, they may offer direct support in a variety of ways and settings, including peer support and assistance with forms at Kiva Centers, other community locales, in-home visits, group facilitation and phone support. The specific duties held as a Peer Run Respite Advocate may vary depending on the type of work performed (group vs. individual, etc.).

Requirements

  • Applicants must have lived experiences with trauma, substance use/addictions recovery, and/or mental health/psychiatric diagnosis
  • Access to reliable transportation (with access to your own vehicles preferred)

Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Position Summary

Kiva Centers is seeking compassionate and experienced Advocate to join our Mobile Peer Respite team. In this role, you will provide peer support to individuals navigating mental health and recovery challenges across the state. This is a part-time position with mileage reimbursement. You will need to travel across Massachusetts, supporting individuals in their homes or communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one peer support to individuals experiencing emotional distress, mental health crises, or other wellness challenge using trauma-informed, person-centered approaches.
  • Travel to various locations throughout Massachusetts, from Boston to the Berkshires, to meet with people in need of support.
  • Facilitate and maintain a supportive, non-judgmental space for individuals to share their experiences.
  • Collaborate with local community organizations and services to assist individuals in accessing necessary resources.
  • Support individuals to apply for LIHEAP, food assistance, DMH services or other supports as requested

Job Summary

Peer Facilitator Coordinator coordinates training, scheduling and supervision of all Peer Facilitators to make certain they are able to ensure safety, promote effective communication, and model self-advocacy for group members.  The PFC makes sure the Peer Facilitators conduct meetings in a trauma-informed way in accordance with the CMRLC Guiding Principles and Values, focusing on fostering topics around recovery, resilience, and self-empowerment.

The PFC works in collaboration with other CMRLC staff, supporting with the overall staffing and running of the CMRLC.

The PFC is preferably multi-lingual and multi-cultural and uniquely positioned to understand and assist Peer Facilitators to establish and advertise meeting thorough the community.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Trains, schedules and supervises all Peer Facilitators.
  • Ongoing participation and monitoring of all Kiva peer support meetings.
  • Coordinates logistical support for other Kiva trainings and workshops.
  • Oversees creation of monthly meeting calendars as well as the tracking of the meetings reportable data.
  • Will work collaboratively to establish new support groups and address groups that are not meeting performance expectations.
  • Responsible to establish and coordinate meetings in different areas.
  • Is involved with community agencies such as CHNA and meeting host sites.
  • Respond to suggestions and complaints about groups promptly, effectively and in a trauma informed way.

Serve as a per diem Recovery Story group facilitator in the CPS training through curriculum facilitation, collaboration, and participant engagement. 2 years experience working as a Certified Peer Specialist required.

Position Summary

The Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) supports the Soteria House through a non-coercive, relationship-based approach grounded in the principles of the Soteria model. This role is not a traditional clinical position, but rather integrates clinical knowledge within a peer-led, trauma-informed, and minimally medicalized environment.

The LMHC provides supportive counseling, consultation, and guidance to staff and guests while respecting autonomy, lived experience, and non-clinical approaches to care.

This job does NOT require the candidate to have lived experience with mental health, substance use, and/or history of trauma.

This role ensures that services are recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, peer-led, and compliant with Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH) standards, including 104 CMR 28 where applicable. The Director will oversee data systems, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes, while supporting program teams to translate data into meaningful improvements in service quality, access, and participant outcomes.

Position Summary

The Medical Director (Psychiatrist) serves in a consultative role to support the safe and effective operation of Kiva Centers’ Soteria House in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This role provides psychiatric insight and guidance while fully respecting the non-coercive, relationship-based, and minimally medicalized approach of the Soteria model.

The Medical Director does not function as a primary clinician within the home, but instead supports staff and leadership by offering expertise related to altered states, psychosis, emotional distress, and mental health system navigation. The role is grounded in a humanistic, recovery-oriented, and rights-based approach.

Job Summary

The PSW will operate with the ultimate goal of empowering each individual to find their own path to recovery.  To the end, they may provide direct support in a variety of ways and settings, including face to face support and phone support.  The PSW will ensure that members at Kiva are being engaged throughout the day, that meetings are occurring as scheduled, that facilitators are logging meeting tracking information, and calls are being answered and forwarded to the proper people in a timely fashion.

Position Summary

The Outreach Coordinator is an on-site, relationship-focused role responsible for representing Kiva Centers across the Commonwealth and strengthening connections between Kiva and community-based health and human service partners. This position plays a key role in welcoming new community members into Kiva’s Recovery Learning Community (RLC) and ensuring Kiva is a visible, trusted, and accessible resource within the broader behavioral health and reentry ecosystem.

The Outreach Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact helping to connect individuals to Kiva’s peer-run supports and programming and serves as an ambassador representing the organization to other agencies, hospitals, or places of natural community gathering. This role centers hospitality, relationship-building, and community presence, both at Kiva Centers and out in the community. The Outreach Coordinator is supervised by the Kiva Centers Recovery Learning Community Director.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Represent Kiva Centers to hospitals, community behavioral health centers, reentry programs, and other health and community agencies across the Commonwealth
  2. Serve as a primary outreach and relationship contact for external partners to connect individuals to the Recovery Learning Community
  3. Actively welcome and engage new community members through in-person connection, events, and daily hospitality within the RLC
  4. Actively support the growth of the Recovery Learning Community by identifying, engaging, and welcoming potential new members
  5. Support and attend outreach events, open houses, and community events to increase awareness of Kiva Centers’ services.
  6. Conduct flyering and in-person outreach to build community visibility and connection.
  7. Research and identify wellness, recovery, reentry, and community-based events where Kiva Centers should have a presence, including conferences, resource fairs, hospital- or community-hosted events, grassroots gatherings, and culturally specific community events.
  8. Collaborate with the Kiva Centers Recovery Learning Community (RLC) Director to establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to outreach and engagement efforts. This includes tracking outreach activities, number of new community members engaged or referred, growth in relationships with hospitals and community partners, increased awareness and understanding of Kiva Centers’ programs and services, and other measurable indicators that reflect both reach and depth of community connection.

Qualifications

Education:  Certified Peer Specialist preferred.

Experience:  Five (5) or more years of experience in a similar position.  Lived experience with mental health, substance use recovery or trauma healing required. Experience working with diverse populations highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge and skills of planning in a collaborative manner.
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating peer services, supports and training.
  • Knowledge of state mental health system and the role of Certified Peer Specialists in the workforce.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to use office equipment

About Soteria House

Soteria House, located in Las Cruces, NM, is a peer-supported, community-based boarding home, accommodating up to 5 individuals, with the primary goal of reducing reliance on psychiatric hospitalization by offering a healing-centered, relationship-driven environment that promotes autonomy, recovery, and reintegration into community life. By centering lived experience and peer support, Soteria House seeks to interrupt cycles of hospitalization and recidivism while creating sustainable pathways to wellness.

Position Summary

Peer Advocates (Certified Peer Specialist Workers) provide peer-to-peer support for Guests of Soteria House. Using lived experience, trauma-informed practices, and recovery principles, Peer Advocates build supportive relationships, model recovery strategies, and assist Guests in navigating both daily living and community integration. This role works under the direct supervision of the House Manager, with oversight from the House Director.

Key responsibilities

Peer support and advocacy

  • Share lived recovery experience to instill hope and demonstrate that healing is possible.
  • Provide trauma-informed peer support in both group and one-on-one settings.
  • Empower Guests to identify personal goals, build coping skills, and increase self-determination.
  • Assist Guests in self-advocacy and navigating healthcare or community services as requested.
  • Promote an environment of dignity, respect, and mutual empowerment.

Guest engagement and support

  • Welcome and orient new Guests to Soteria House, ensuring they feel safe and supported.
  • Support Guests in accessing resources such as peer groups, housing, benefits, and wellness programs.
  • Help maintain a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused environment in the home.
  • Offer practical supports (transportation, appointments, or resource navigation) as needed.

Collaboration and teamwork

  • Work under the guidance of the House Manager and in collaboration with other Peer Advocates and staff.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate Guest needs, concerns, and progress with the House Manager while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Uphold the mission and values of Soteria House in all interactions.

General duties

  • Support daily household upkeep and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Complete documentation, timesheets, and incident reports in compliance with state and organizational standards.
  • Uphold resident rights, confidentiality, and privacy at all times.
  • Respond promptly and respectfully to Guest requests and staff communications.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Peer Specialist (CPS), or willingness to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Personal lived experience with trauma, mental health recovery, and/or substance use recovery.
  • Compliance with employee abuse registry requirements (8.370.8 NMAC).
  • Compliance with incident reporting and investigation requirements (8.370.9 NMAC).
  • Successful completion of background check and caregiver criminal history screening pursuant to 8.370.5 NMAC.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Guests in the language they understand.
  • Commitment to maintaining a workplace free from the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.
  • Familiarity with recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and peer-support values.
  • First, second, and third shifts available

Preferred qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience in peer support, advocacy, or residential settings.
  • Completion of WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) or other peer-support trainings.
  • Familiarity with Intentional Peer Support (IPS), Trauma-Informed Peer Support (TIPS), or Alternatives to Suicide (ATS) models.
