Position Summary

Kiva Centers is seeking compassionate and experienced Advocate to join our Mobile Peer Respite team. In this role, you will provide peer support to individuals navigating mental health and recovery challenges across the state. This is a part-time position with mileage reimbursement. You will need to travel across Massachusetts, supporting individuals in their homes or communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one peer support to individuals experiencing emotional distress, mental health crises, or other wellness challenge using trauma-informed, person-centered approaches.
• Travel to various locations throughout Massachusetts, from Boston to the Berkshires, to meet with people in need of support.
• Facilitate and maintain a supportive, non-judgmental space for individuals to share their experiences.
• Collaborate with local community organizations and services to assist individuals in accessing necessary resources.
• Support individuals to apply for LIHEAP, food assistance, DMH services or other supports as requested
• Uphold the CPS Code of ethics and values of self-determination, confidentiality and mutuality in all interactions.
• Maintain timely and accurate documentation (including timesheets) in line with Kiva Centers policies.
• Approach recovery through a holistic lens that includes financial, physical, emotional, intellectual, social, environmental, spiritual and occupational well-being.
• Commitment to honoring diverse pathways to healing, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to recovery and well-being.
• Demonstrated skill in having conversations around suicide, self-harm, trauma, grief and other sensitive topics.
• Participate in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing professional development.
• Complete the Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) training within one year of hire (if not already certified).

Qualifications

• Lived experience with mental health challenges, trauma, substance use recovery, and/or navigating emotional distress.
• Commitment to obtaining the Massachusetts Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) certification within one year of hire.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout Massachusetts, including from Boston to the Berkshires.
• Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
• Strong interpersonal communication and active listening skills.
• Understanding of trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and peer support values.
• Familiarity with Massachusetts mental health resources is preferred.
