Kiva Center FAQs

Whether you’re completely new to the Kiva Centers or are returning after a period of being away, WELCOME! A lot has changed, but many things remain the same. 

No matter how you feel or what is happening in your life, we believe in every person’s right to a self-healing process. From our own lived experiences we know we can achieve it. Feel free to stop by during normal business hours to come check us out or sit in on one of our meetings. In the meantime, here are answers to some frequently asked questions. 

What are the Kiva Centers?

The Kiva Center of the Central Mass Recovery Learning Community (RLC) is a trauma-informed recovery-based outcome model. We work with people who have experiences with psychiatric diagnoses, substance use, and trauma.

We believe that connection and community are at the center of what heals people who have experienced trauma and/or received a mental health diagnosis. We are united by our shared experience and common humanity. Our stories, collective wisdom and strength, guide us, and our community to wellness.

How do I join the Kiva Centers?

You are welcome to come by and take a tour. One of our peer supporters will show you our center and will answer any questions you may have. Feel free to look at our calendar and choose a meeting or two to sit in on the day you come to visit us for the first time.

Is there a cost to join the Kiva Centers or participate in activities?

There is no cost to join the Kiva Centers: Recovery Learning Communities. No cost to attend the Kiva Centers’ activities. No insurance is required.

Where can I park?

On-street parking is available via parking meters near the building, and at a public parking garage located at the Worcester Plaza Garage, Pleasant Street. Worcester.

Can I get to the Kiva Center (Worcester) by bus?

Yes. the Kiva Center in Worcester is located on 427 Main Street and is accessible by bus (WRTA).

 What is Kiva’s smoking policy

We have a cigarette smoking area in our back. You can access the smoking area through our back room, or by the side alley if an event is taking place in the back room.

Can I use the phone and computers?

You are welcome to use the phone and computer. Other peers can help you if you need.

 How can I receive Kiva’s monthly calendars?

The Kiva Centers: Central Mass RLC has three calendars of activities, one for Kiva – Worcester, one for our Framingham location, and another for our Southbridge location. They all have information on meetings and gatherings for their respective areas. You may request to receive the calendar emailed to you monthly by asking an employee of the Kiva peer support team  to add your email address to the email list.

 Do I have to bring my own materials to groups?

the Kiva Centers’ activities include such things as arts, music, dance, yoga, and meditation. the Kiva Centers provide all materials for the groups and activities. However, feel free to bring any materials you prefer to use.

 What are the staff like?

All the employees have lived experience with either trauma, mental health, and/or substance use. They have received training in and are, or shortly will be, Certified Peer Specialists.
